Starting Small

Image
After a hiatus, I'm back to creating. I've been a caregiver for a little while. After Mom's illness and her passing, I tried to cope by keeping busy. I'm taking some time to regroup. Now I'm starting to create, making earrings; because I need to start somewhere. Earrings June 2017 Teardrop lightweight earrings Right: Snowflake Obsidian and silver plate hearts; Left: Teal cathedral beads and tiny compasses on silver plate mounts. I'm cleaning, sorting and organizing, too. This vintage quilt is a keeper, freshly washed: Crown of Thorns, vintage quilt in my collection. Thanks for stopping by my blog; hopefully I'll be blogging more regularly! :)

Welcome New Visitors ! Thank you for stopping by to visit! Here I talk about making jewelry and my beading passion, or perhaps that is my shopping for beads obsession. ;) scroll down for the link   I work for a craft store, so most of my bead collection is commercial beads and supplies, but I am finding so much to tempt me with true handcrafted beads, both lampwork glass and polymer clay. I just ordered some special polymer clay beads for a bead soup party that I plan on joining, and I have a few ceramic beads from ceramic artists, so I have made the first steps. A Book Review: Beading Artistry for Quilts by Thom Atkins

While at the Library, I was looking for bead related books, to see if there was something new. I was thinking seed beads: off-loom bead-weaving or bead embroidery. I wanted to learn more about doing a picot edge for a bracelet that I started. (It won't need that picot edge for a while, but I was anticipating the challenge!) I found my tutorial on beaded picot edge in a wonderful book about beaded quilts. Wow! Two of my great passions together in one book, and what quilts they were, too! Whether you are a beader or a quilter, you will LOVE looking at this book.  My first passion, and the cause of my overflowing fabric stash was quilting, or collecting quilt fabrics, if you will. ;) While I have set aside making quilts in the last few years, I still have a love and appreciation of fabric, bed quilts, art quilts, and all things mixed-media. So I highly recommend this book for both the tutorials on bead embroidery and the beautiful quilts pictured inside. Here is a link to Amaz...

Things I Care About

Image
A random list of stuff I care about; in no particular order. Cooking healthy food for my family - Thinking about Meatless Mondays. Patchwork Quilts - because it's a good way to use up my fabric collection! Recycling - Don't you just hate the thought of all the (probably usable) stuff going into landfills? The Ten Commandments - and other ways to create a Heaven on Earth. Sustainability - how to manufacture things without destroying the Earth. Learning about Clean Energy - Solar, Wind, Geothermal. Groundwater - Let's keep this valuable resource clean and uncontaminated. There's more, but I can't think of it right now!
