I suppose with my interest in the environment, I should have read it long ago, this summer I am reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. I'm just beginning, so will have more to say about it later. I plan to research a bit about what pesticides are in current use, and how they differ from the DDT-type pesticides. I suspect there is still a big risk to our drinking water quality. Meanwhile, on an entirely different note, I am putting borders on a baby quilt. Soon to attempt machine quilting!

When Grandmother called the family to dinner, she said: "Soup's On!" (When my Grandma served Sunday dinner, it always began with chicken vegetable soup. She made a good hearty soup that I have never been able to duplicate. But that's because I'm not using chicken feet! Well time marches on... spending hours in the kitchen is not my thing, unless you include the beading projects at the kitchen table.) Let's play with Bead Soup! I love the soup my partner Leslie Wayment sent me! It was full of turquoise and turquoise dyed howlite; my favorite color. In fact it is full of color. I have enough beads to make several more items. I just ordered some special polymer clay beads for a bead soup party that I plan on joining, and I have a few ceramic beads from ceramic artists, so I have made the first steps. Yes, I am a Bead Hoarder! Thanking Lori Anderson for this wonderful challenge: It has gotten me started on creating again, and using what's on hand is a great way to stretch one's design ideas. (So are almost 170 other beaders, LOL. I want to visit all the hoppers and will, but it is taking a while!) First is a necklace from a set of assorted beads already pre-coordinated by Bead Landing. To see the stash I blogged about, click: Here  (Purchased on clearance.) I added the copper beads and the central howlite disc from my stash. Easy peasy, just need to decide the arrangement and add the spacers. Blue - Copper "Color Splash" Necklace - beads from Michaels I created this first attempt at 'bead weaving' ( I think it is actually netting, if you are getting specific ), while I was on vacation with my family in June.
